Custom Coasters as Wedding Favors: Quantity & Personalization
Custom coasters have quietly become one of the most popular wedding favors — they’re useful, they photograph beautifully on a place setting, and unlike edible favors they actually go home and stay in use. But two questions trip couples up every time: how many to order, and how far to take personalization. Here’s how we’d plan it.
How many coasters should you order?
Start with your final guest count, then add a buffer. Favors get lost, taken as pairs, and grabbed as keepsakes by the wedding party, so we generally recommend ordering 10–15% over your headcount. If you’re also using coasters as table décor or at the bar, count those separately.
| Guest count | Suggested order (with buffer) |
|---|---|
| 50 | 60 |
| 100 | 115 |
| 150 | 170 |
| 200 | 225 |
Our minimum order is 50, which comfortably covers most weddings. Because per-unit pricing drops with volume, the jump from 100 to 150 costs far less than double — worth knowing if you’re on the fence about a bigger buffer.
Levels of personalization
There are three tiers, and they cost about the same to produce:
1. One design for everyone. A monogram, the couple’s names, and the date. Simple, elegant, and the easiest to approve. 2. A small set of designs. Two to four variations — his/hers, a crest plus a quote, or one per table theme. 3. Individually personalized. Each guest’s name etched on their own coaster, doubling as a place card. Send us a spreadsheet of names and we handle the rest — a favorite for smaller, seated weddings.
Which material for a wedding?
Engraved cork and wood read warm and rustic; slate feels formal and premium; full-color neoprene is the pick if you want a printed photo or vivid color. All take names and dates cleanly.
Timeline
Work backward from the wedding. We produce in about three weeks from approved artwork, and you’ll want your favors in hand a week or two early for assembly. Add a few days for mockups and revisions, and you’re looking at ordering roughly six weeks out — earlier if you want a sample first.
Order about 10–15% over your guest count, decide early whether you want per-guest names, and start the process around six weeks before the date.
